Folly Beach South Carolina Surf Fishing?
Posted by genglish on Nov 24, 2011
Hello, i am going to Folly Beach South Carolina in February and also in june, i am an avid surf fisherman and was wondering if anyone could give me any tips such as where to fish, what kinds of fish i could catch, and what baits to use because i have never fished here before.
Thanks! and happy fishing!
I have three spots that might interest you. First of all, if you take a left on East Ashley Street from Center Street and drive down to the end of the island (there’s parking right before the roundabout) you can walk about five minutes down a trail to where the river comes out into the ocean. That can be a hot spot as a lot of fish congregate here. Also, the Folly Beach Pier next to the Tides Hotel has a little tackle shop that sells bait (and daily fishing licenses for the pier) and many people enjoy fishing here. They can also give you local knowledge as to what’s biting and what baits are most prolific. Lastly, driving down East Ashley Street from Center Street when you get to 10th block you can park off the road on one of the side streets and walk out to the beach. Lately I’ve been told there is a good hole out off of 10th block and that redfish are hanging out there. I haven’t tried it yet but plan to take my 9 weight fly rod out there this week. The sandbars are always changing so it may take some trial and error when you get down here, or ask the locals, we’re all pretty friendly. Spotted sea trout, redfish, flounder, sharks and skates are going to be among the fish you can catch. Shrimp (live or frozen), live mud minnows, and squid are the staple baits around here. Cheers!
