Well can’t say for sure what the seals are eating in your area “but” in my area when the seals are around there mostly feeding on the striped bass or salmon,,,,A lot of times I watch for the birds diving or the seals splashing because that means there feeding on something and more the likely it’s a decent size school of decent sized fish,,,,If surf smelts are in your area I am sure there are predator fish feeding on them!!!

@SharkManHD ah, cool. well I might try to catch a bigger fish when the surf smelt are in. usually I be cast netting when the surf smelts are in. so no time to try and catch a bigger fish.
sometimes we catch red tail surf perch on surf smelts.
