You don’t need …
You don’t need really long rods here. The action is pretty close to shore; no need to cast way the heck out there unless you want a ray or shark. If you have a medium action trout or bass rod, you’re good.

@mmmmmarcus GOOGLED …
@mmmmmarcus GOOGLED??? LIAR??? I don’t know where you fish, but here in San Diego, if your preferred Hali bait is Barred Surfperch, then ur a FARMER. This is 30 years of targeting the Cali Hali in San Diego shallows speaking. Need proof? Go check out all my pics on Crystal Pier and IB pier. Ask the workers who “The Halibutman” is. If not satisfied, I can send a shitload more pics of slabs I caught off my kayak and in the surf. By the way, I’ve caught many a barndoor on live macks.

*Meh* it works, …
*Meh* it works, but not well.

I DO catch alot of short halibut with strips of mack when targetting sharks though. For the smaller, dumber Halis, yes.

For older halis legal sized and up– Nope. lures and live bait are the best.
