What is the best rod and reel to use for surf fishing?

I am interested in trying some surf fishing and would like some recommendations as to good equipment.
Here are some Rods & reels I recommend. Please read the reviews for each:

Rod???
1. Ugly Stik, Big Water 10′ MH- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_19912____SearchResults
2. Daiwa, Emblem 10′ MH- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10204556____SearchResults
I don’t know your budget so I’ve listed a variety of excellent reels and rods in various price points.
One tip- If your on a limited budget, spend more on your reel than your rod. A 10′ Ugly Stik is fine for most Surf Applications.
Not to be rude, but the Quantum Boca has a mediocre reputation. Please read reviews here- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51684____SearchResults
Hope this helps ya? Good luck fishing!
Saltwater Fishing- Is a Abu Garcia BCX Series Baitcaster tough enough for fishing off the pier- question below?
Posted by genglish on Aug 27, 2010
What size rod would be good for saltwater im guessing 7,0 MH?
It should work fine. The C3′s and C4′s are extremely better than the BCX’s, in my opinion, the BCX’s are not worth buying and usually malfunction during heavy use. Just use it until it breaks, then replace it with a C3-6500 or a big spinning reel. Spinning reels cast easier when you need long casts in my opinion, which is an advantage for surf/pier fishing.
I’d use a 8′ or 9′ MH rod but a 7′ rod will work okay.

Is tuna fish actually good for your cat?
Posted by genglish on Aug 25, 2010
I am wondering if tuna fish has a negative effect, no effect, or positive effect on cats. Is there any nutritional value in tuna that helps cats maintian good health? Or is it just a good tasting treat for them?
No – tuna can get cats addicted to it to the point of the cat not eating any other foods.
It doesn’t have all the nutrition the cat needs and with males, can cause more problems with UTI’s.
Our cats get very little fish and they won’t eat tuna or salmon cat foods. I have one male that got a UTI and with a more/less no-fish based food diet, he has not had another UTI. I’d like to keep it that way!
what spinning reel should i buy for bass fishing and surf fishing?
Posted by genglish on Aug 25, 2010
maybe even some pier fishing. i can spend some money on a good reel but nothing over the top..maybe $80 tops. would a 6’6" ugly stick be a good choice? thank you. i want a small enough rod to be sensitive enough for bass but strong enough for some inshore saltwater fishing. thanks.
ugly stick 7′ with a fin-ite reel been my setup for years and years
